PROFILE OF NORA LOPEZ NOGUERA

Nora holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications and Public Relations from Oklahoma State University, and a B.A. in Photography and Drawing from The Corcoran School of Art, Washington, D.C.  In the capital of the United States she worked at the Organization of American States, in the Department of Public Information/Press Division, for 22 years. She also worked as Director of PI/Media Relations at MAPA Communications, and for two years in the Department of Press/Public Information of the Embassy of Nicaragua.  She is the founder and director of El Alma del Arte, a consulting firm in Virginia that provides consulting services to artists, institutions, organizations, and companies in the art forms of Flamenco and Mediterranean dance.

 

At an early age she studied ballet and Flamenco in her native country. After completing university studies in the U.S., she began her career in communications and public relations in Washington, D.C. In this period she resumed her training in Flamenco.

 

In Washington Nora studied all “palos” (forms) of Flamenco under Ana Martínez, with whose company she has performed in this area. She also studied at D.C. Dance Collective with Anna Menendez and Edwin Aparicio, and Spanish Dance with Carmen de Vicente, with whose company, “Requiebros,” she has performed, also in the Washington area. Nora has performed as a soloist at different venues in Washington, D.C.

 

Every year she travels to Spain to receive more Flamenco training.  In Seville she has studied with La Farruca, La Faraona, Juana Amaya, Felipe Mato, Lourdes Recio, Lucia del Gastor  and Pepa Valdivia.  In Jerez de la Frontera she studied with Gloria de Jerez.  In Washington she has taken workshops with Antonio Vargas, Juan del Valle, Omayra Amaya, La Tati and Carmela Greco.

 

Nora also has training in Middle Eastern dance. Her background is primarily in the Egyptian style. She has studied Egyptian style under a famous Egyptian native dancer, Faten Salama, and is a member of her dance company.  She has also studied Turkish Belly Dance with the famous Morocco (Carolina Vargas Dinicu).

 

Nora has traveled extensively throughout Latin America and Europe. She is fluent in English and Spanish and has some knowledge of French and Portuguese.
